Posturing Load Shedding Control

Overview
Postured Load Shedding Control is performed in a composite control region at a sufficient control level to prevent voltage instability for all of the contingencies that affect one or more loadpockets. This tool can be used to design Under Voltage Load Shedding to take action when the voltages produced at the point of non solution are above a certain threshold for contingencies associated with voltage instability in these loadpockets.

Structural
  • Performs load shedding for the most severe contingencies that produce the largest load pockets and control regions which will arrest instability in the majority of the less severe contingencies that impact a loadpocket and control region that is nested in the larger ones
  • Performs load shedding for the most contingency vulnerable loadpockets and control regions for all contingencies that cause voltage instability in the loadpocket and experience effective control using the control region

  • Postured Control reduces the total number of unique controls needed to mitigate a majority of the critical contingencies from several hundred down to a manageable number
  • A few postured controls dramatically reduce the number of contingencies that cause voltage instability
